Over the years, Starfleet's Medical officers have proven their worth time and time again. Fleet doctors tend to be the most frustrated people alive -- half the time, they're dealing with the healthiest lifeforms since the beginning of time; the other half, they deal with diseases, conditions, or organisms never even imagined before. The combination would frustrate normal people, but Starfleet's Medical officers take it in stride. Aboard Coronado, the ship's Medical staff is directly responsible to the Executive Officer for both the physical and emotional well being of the crew of the ship, balancing the Chief of Operation's responsibility for the ship herself. With the ever-increasing number of member races and species in the Federation, this is becoming a more complex prospect every day... Though the ship's main Sickbay is rather small, at need, several facilities throughout the ship can be refit to serve the needs of the ship's doctors.

Starfleet's frigates are not generally intended as exploratory or scientific vessels. However, the fleet has suffered significant losses in recent years, requiring that even smaller vessels assist in the scientific xploration that is Starfleet's primary mission, "to boldy go where no one has gone before." Coronado carries the fleet standard scientific instrument pallets, to make this mission possible. Astro-, particle, and plasma physics, stellar cartography, chemistry, biology and xenobiology, botany and xenobotany, and planetary geography are important physical science secions on the ship; sociology, history, anthropology, psychology, and linguistics are the important social sciences aboard. Since the ship's scientific staff tends to be smaller than on the larger pathfinder cruiser and explorer size ships, it is even more important that Coronado's scientific staff be masters in their fields!

Post:Chief Medical Officer
U.S.S. Coronado, NCC-97901
Species:Human Female
Birthplace:London, England, Earth
Age:53

Physical Characteristics:
Height/Weight:175 centimeters / 61 kilograms
Hair/Eyes:Brown / Brown
Description:Kennedy is in good physical shape. She is slim and tall, with some darkness to her features (owing to a British-German-Egyptian heritage).

Personality Characteristics:
Marital Status:Widowed
Family:Father: Michael Allen Heatherton, archaeology professor, Oxford University; Mother: Nephthys Mubarak-Heatherton, xenohistory professor, Leeds University; Sister: Brittania Heatherton, international economics professor, London School of Economics; Husband: Gregory Kennedy, correspondent, FNS (deceased); Daughter: Aimee Kennedy, forensic anthropologist; Son: Tobias Kennedy, freelance writer.
Dominants:Quick, charismatic, unflappable
Notes:Kennedy is a very astute observer, and has been noted more than once for her quick ability to assess a situation with little or no background knowledge. Further, she makes friends quickly and tends to keep in touch with many experts in many fields if she needs information. This network aided her immensely in her career as a news correspondent, as well as keeping her options open for different stories. Kennedy was also noted for her grace under fire (sometimes literally), as dangerous or quickly deteriorating situations would usually find her entirely in control of her faculties and judgment. This trait helped her both as a news correspondent, and later as a medic in times of combat.
Interests:Kennedy enjoys sketching, opera and handball. She is fluent in Federation Standard, Arabic and Kindubry. She can get by in Klingon.

Personal History:
Profile:Rachel Heatherton was born on Earth, European continent, but the interests of her parents took them far beyond that planet many times during her youth. Her father's interest in archaeology paired with her mother's xenohistorical expertise would take the family very often on long jaunts to newly-discovered planets or ruins. This love of travel infused into Rachel, shaping her early life choices. While sister Brittany preferred to stay near Earth after school, Rachel instead pursued a career as a correspondent for the Federation News Service, working with the FNS for nearly fifteen years as a respected and decorated correspondent.

Rachel's work took her to the sites of several battles during the Dominion War, and built her reputation as the "Queen of Cool." Her aide during many of these outings was Andrew Kennedy, who became a close personal friend and confidante during the long-haul missions and short stopovers between stories. Eventually the two formed a strong relationship, marrying just after the end of the Dominion War. Within two years of their marriage, Rachel became pregnant with twins and gave birth in 2377 to Anjana and Galen. They continued to work together, though settling down somewhat to raise the children, until an accidental explosion on Paramin III killed Andrew and injured several others. Rachel was spared in the event, but the grief over her husband's death ended her time with the Federation News Service. She quit and went into Starfleet Academy, frequently the eldest student in classes. She excelled in her studies, however, coming out in the top five percent of her graduating class.

In the academy Rachel studied medicine, and did another two years of medical training before taking a post at SFM on Earth. She worked at that post for four years before taking a post on the Kindubry homeworld as a research aide for another three years, until the twins were fifteen. At that point she returned them to Earth, to the care of her parents and sister, as she looked into more wide-ranging posts. She took one as a medical officer aboard the U.S.S. Odyssey, a newly-commissioned Sovereign class vessel. Serving aboard that ship for a grand total of eight years, and serving under three different commanding officers, Kennedy came to know that ship and its crew very well.

When it was heavily damaged by Rihannsu forces, Kennedy stayed aboard rather than accept the numerous transfer opportunities that were offered her. Her staying aboard led to her eventual presence in the M64 galaxy, and she was one of the last people to leave that ship before it was destroyed (once again reinforcing the opinion that she was absolutely unshakeable). She drifted from assignment to assignment between other Task Force ships, finally landing aboard the U.S.S. Coronado.

Name:EMH Mark IVEMH Mark IV
Post:Assistant Medical Officer
U.S.S. Coronado, NCC-97901
Birthplace:Created at Jupiter Station, Sol System
Species:Hologram
Age:N/A

Physical Characteristics:
Height/Weight:171 centimeters / 0 kilograms
Hair/Eyes:Brown / Blue
Description:The physical characteristics of the EMH are relatively unchanged since the program's development in the early 2370s. It is of just-below average height, appears to be middle-aged, balding, and with a pleasant but not particularly handsome face. It appears in an older style Starfleet uniform to make it very clear that it is not a physical lifeform, but it can alter its appearance more or less at will if needed. Because the EMH is a hologram, it can transfer instantly to any point on the ship that is equipped with holoemitters.

Personality Characteristics:
Marital Status:N/A
Family:N/A
Dominants:Acerbic, efficient, superior
Notes:The Emergency Medical Hologram was developed as a short-term supplement for the ship's sentient medical staff. Intended as an assistant rather than a full-fledged physician in its own right, the properties of the EMH were stretched when the U.S.S. Voyager was forced to rely on one as its Chief Medical Officer for more than five years. Since that time, the EMH database has been expanded in an attempt to give it a better bedside manner than the original model possessed.

While several versions of the EMH have been released, there is really no substitute for leaving the program running for long periods of time in the company of humanoids in order to let it build up its empathic and conversational skills. The latest models will automatically expand their databases to account for increased knowledge and experience; unfortunately, there is still no way to preprogram them with these experiences. For this reason, many ship's Medical officers refuse to work with EMH programs, and many Starfleet officers and crew are somewhat amused by them, or uncomfortable about being treated by one.
