The Marine Commandant serves the same function for Coronado's Marine Corps
contingent that the Executive Officer serves for the rest of the crew. He or she is the overall
commander of Marine activities, even outranking the Commanding Officer in some circumstances
where the Marines aboard ship are concerned. Under normal conditions, the Marine Commandant
mans the Mission Ops station on the Bridge, and is third in command of the ship.
U.S.S. Coronado's standard Marine contingent is 274 sentients divided into nine platoons and
eight Spectre class fighters, Tactical Fighter Wing 47 (TFW-47), the "Thunderbirds," and TFW-119,
the "Thundercats." The Spectres can operate as part of a coordinated Marine assault on a contested
position, providing either atmospheric air support or space-bourne defense of a ship or facility
being assaulted. The Spectres can also operate independently.
The Company Commanders (there are two aboard Coronado) are in charge of the Marine
ground forces. They command their companies during hostile planetary landings and ship boardings
and oversee ground operations in general. The Flight Leaders, of which there are two on board
Coronado, each command three other Marine pilots when flying Spectre class fighters.
This four-fighter element is generally referred to as a "wing." The Flight Leaders are also
generally the only officers qualified to fly the Targa class assault runabout when one is
docked aboard Coro.

Name: |
Major General Jeremy Daniel Ironside |

  |
 |
Post: | Division Commander, M64 1st Division SFMC / Defender Ground Forces |
Species: | Human Male |
Birthplace: | Tigris Colony, Gilgamesh-9 |
Age: | 46 |
|
Physical Characteristics: |
Height/Weight: | 185 centimeters / 112 kilograms |
Hair/Eyes: | Grey (Balding) / Brown |
Description: | Extremely toned and muscular body, with wide shoulders, a large torso and long arms and legs as a result of living in a high gravity environment and military training. Despite his bulk, Ironside is light on his feet and quite deadly in hand to hand combat. He always has a serious look on his face and walks with a purposeful stride. |
Notes: | As a result of being born on and growing up on Gilgamesh Nine, Ironside's muscles are extremely dense and much more powerful than for a normal man of his size. Through years of extensive training, he has overcome the clumsiness associated with moving from such a high-gravity to normal-gravity environment, and is very dexterous. He maintains his muscle density through regular training sessions in the gymnasium with the gravity dialled up to Gilgamesh Nine norm, by keeping the gravity in his quarters and office at the same setting, and occasionally by wearing a variable-gravity belt while on duty.
He is also blessed with very acute vision and hearing. Despite his age, he is able to see objects cleanly and clearly from longer than normal range, lending to his expert marksmanship ability, and is also able of detecting sounds of a much lower decibel level than normal, lending to his combat awareness. Both of these are side effects of the strength of the muscles in his eyes and ears. |
|
Personality Characteristics: |
Marital Status: | Single |
Family: | Family: Father: Michael Ironside - Former Starfleet Marine (retired); Mother: Anna Ironside - Former Stellar Cartography Technician (retired). |
Dominants: | Loyal, persevering, rugged |
Notes: | Jeremy Ironside grew up in a Starfleet family, but was raised on Gilgamesh by his Mother, a Stellar Catrography technician working in the labs on the planet's expanding colony. His father was one of the many colonials from the planet who joined the SFMC. Although often gone for many months at a time, Jeremy's father was very much a family man and was dedicated to keeping in touch with his family. Although his father was not always there in body, he was always very much there in spirit.
Bolstered by his mother's good experience with Starfleet, and his father's stories from throughout the galaxy, Jeremy also decided to join Starfleet when he was a teenager. He worked hard at adjusting his movements in the lower normal gravity for Starfleet vessels at home in order to get over the standard clumsiness that came from the adjustment, and soon was performing acrobatics easily with his powerful muscles in the 1g gravity.
When he was old enough, Jeremy applied to Starfleet Academy, choosing the academic route over the direct application to the Starfleet Marine Corps like his father. At the Academy, Jeremy was an outgoing, cheerful, enjoyable young man who was dedicated to his schoolwork and studies, always assisting those in need of help and continually striving to outdo himself. Originally majoring in tactical operations, he later changed his major to Strategic Tactical Planning as his father told him stories of the battles he was fighting on the front lines during the Dominion War.
After graduating from Starfleet Academy, he turned down a tactical planning post at Starfleet Headquarters in order to join the SFMC and enter the Marine's dedicated Academy program.
In the Marine Academy, he quickly proved to be an excellent asset to the Corps, using his enhanced muscle density to the best of his advantage. Near the end of the Marine Academy program in 2381, he was stationed on Mars during mock combat training. While there, he met Commander Sandra Nouveau, one of the heads at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. The two hit it off very well, but were separated mid year when Ironside graduated and was posted to the U.S.S. Tarawa on his first year of duty. The two kept in contact until Ironside's first combat operation.
At the time, there was a minor conflict happening between Starfleet and the Son'a colonies that had rejected a possible reunification with their Ba'Ku parents. During the conflict, Starfleet was forced to attempt to seize an outpost on the strategically significant planet of Helios Four. Ironside and the U.S.S. Tarawa were part of the assault force moving to take the planet. However, a spy within Starfleet had alerted the colony to both the assault, and the landing targets for the marine forces. When the assault began, the landing positions had already been pre-sighted by mortars, anti-infantry guns, and heavy vehicles. The landing was a slaughter, with casualties reaching 95% before the transporter operators onboard the Marine vessels were able to retrieve the survivors. Ironside, severely wounded as he materialized, was forced to watch in agony as every man and woman in his company was slaughtered in a massive crossfire.
After being rescued, Ironside spent a month in recovery, both for physical and psychological damage. At about the same time, Sandra Nouveau discovered that she was with child, and that Ironside was the father. As he emerged from recovery, however, it was very clear that Ironside was no longer the man he once was. He emerged with almost a schizoid personality disorder, experiencing little to no emotion of any kind. Upon learning this, Sandra decided not to tell him about his child, and the two severed contact with each other.
Re-entering the ranks of the Marines, Ironside retained the dedication and perseverance he had before Helios Four, but with an intensity that few had seen before. In a matter of a few combat operations, it became clear that Ironside had become one of the most deadly and effective tools that the Corps had to wield. His emotionally flat affect left Ironside completely cool headed during combat operations, his mind continually assessing the situation and planning the best methods for a successful outcome. He was fearless, and incredibly deadly. Wherever Ironside went, he left a trail of destruction behind him. This was abundantly clear in the second, successful, operation on Helios Four, where Ironside assumed command of his squadron when the squadron leader was disabled, and cut a swath through the enemy lines larger than most of the companies participating in the action were creating.
His performance in the heat of battle earned him the Aldeberan Citation of Valour, and he was allowed to retain the squadron of which he assumed command. As the combat operations continued, Ironside and his squadron gained recognition as one of the crack teams of the SFMC, always shuffled around to the hot spots and assigned to top-secret covert operations. When Stephen Gregg, a man with an even flatter demeanour than Ironside himself but less schooled in the ways of strategic planning joined the squadron, the two became strong co-workers and tore through the enemy like ghosts, emerging only the odd time with anything but scratch on them. This tendency came to a rather grizzly head when dissidents seized the colony on Underhill, consisting of 1,000 colonists, in 2385. Ironside's squad was assigned the task of remedying the situation when the negotiations failed. The result was the death of all 85 dissidents holding the colony hostage. Although publicly the incident was cited as 'extremely excessive force' by the media, the Marine Corps (having no love for the dissident movement that was prominent on Federation Colonies at that time) was very impressed and awarded Ironside the Diamond Eyes with Clusters for the operation.
The public, however, wasn't too pleased with this. Political pressure eventually forced the Corps to place Ironside into the position of Company Commander, where his combat experience would be on a larger level, and thus look better in the eyes of the public. In addition, the dissident movement as a whole chose Ironside as their poster boy for the one man that all dissidents should make it their duty to eliminate, labelling him a war criminal. Over the years, several attempts have been made on his life or his family's life by former or underground dissents. Some believe that because of the dissidents eventual ties and amalgamation with Omega, that that organization also holds the same opinion.
This turned out not to be the case, as Ironside and his company quickly became known as 'The baddest, meanest, toughest sons of bitches poundin' the ground'. The company, much like his squadron before hand, became one of the crack units of the SFMC, always in the hot spots, and always leaving a swatch of enemy carcasses behind them. Ironside and his company's exemplary service continued for many years, still based off of the Tobruk-class U.S.S. Tarawa. However, the Tarawa was involved in a botched drop in 2388 as it attempted to get its marines onto the surface while under heavy attack. The marine contingent was scattered by transport interference and target locks as the Tarawa was heavily damaged and subsequently destroyed. Their equipment and arms did not make it with them.
On the surface, Ironside, along with twelve of his men, found themselves in a jungle area littered with trained Viridian tri-headed terror beasts, purchased as guards for the complex that was supposed to have been assault. Three of the beasts, standing as tall as a human and mounting three heads filled with razor sharp teeth, began to hunt the group as they attempted to rendezvous with the members of Tarawa's contingent that had made it to the surface before the ship was destroyed. Ironside, very much aware of the beasts, managed to lead the men to the rendezvous point without casualties, but not before facing down two of the three beasts single-handedly.
The Marines were retrieved from the planet a week and a half later, having survived the jungle with little to no weaponry or equipment, largely due to Ironside's leadership. He was awarded the Andorian Cross for his performance. After a brief period of R&R, Ironside and his company were posted to the heavy marine transport U.S.S. Leyte Gulf. Among the new members joining Ironside at this time was Dieter Stampfer, a jovial human of German descent and a weapons master. Stampfer, always a happy man, made it his mission to attempt to bring his commander out of his anhedonia, his flat affect. To some measure, he was successful. Over the next several years, Ironside became noticeably more emotional when off duty. He began to spend more time with his Marines while off duty, and was occasionally seen breaking a smile. His demeanour on the battlefield, however, remained unchanged.
In 2394, Peter Lightbody joined Ironside's company. Within the first week, the lieutenant had managed to heavily damage Ironside's Concussion Rifle while attempting to fire it. Years later, the Colonel would torment the young man about it through an elaborate scheme where his concussion rifle went missing from the armoury, with Lightbody being the last to see it. In 2395, Ironside was pulled from his company commander position aboard the Leyte Gulf to serve onboard General MacArthur's staff to help plan and conduct a major invasion of Ibis Prime in order to recapture a colony lost years ago in a border conflict that had just flared up again. After the successful operation, Ironside returned to the Leyte Gulf not as a Company Commander, but as a Battalion Commander.
In 2399, after a long and successful career onboard dedicated marine vessels, Ironside was assigned as the Marine Commandant onboard the U.S.S. Coronado and given command of her's and the U.S.S. Renegade's marines. |
Interests: | Challenges of physical dexterity, sparring, weapons training/simulation, tactical planning, a strenuous workout in his own gravity, and military history/fiction. |
|
Training Notes: |
Armed Combat: | In armed combat, Ironside prefers the use of the standard M2-43 Plasma Rifle during planetary operations due to its durability and effectiveness, and the standard Type IIIc heavy phaser rifle for shipboard operations. He has recently become interested in a modification of the Type IIIc produced by 1st Lieutenant Peter Lightbody that is capable of firing in three or five round bursts rather than in semi-automatic mode. In terms of heavy fire support, Ironside has in his possession a rare Stouker Arms CRM-12 Heavy Concussion Rifle, which was given to him in 2383 by one of his wounded Marines. Ironside carries a standard issue SFMC combat knife, but rarely uses it, as his ultra-dense muscle structure allows him to inflict lethal damage with a single swing, should he desire.
|
Unarmed Combat: | Ironside is proficient in two main forms of hand-to-hand combat, both martial arts forms. His primary form is Systema, a Russian martial art invented in the early 20th century that even today is considered by far the best martial arts form for fighting opponents armed with knives, and fighting multiple opponents at once. Systema has no ranks or belts, but Ironside has reached what many consider to be the highest level of achievement in the art. Ironside holds the rank of 8th Dan in Shao-Lin Kung Fu, and practices daily in the Marine's gymnasium. He occasionally conducts courses in the art for those Marines wishing to improve upon their skills or for those wishing an introduction into the art. In his early career in Starfleet, Ironside also studied the Kung Fu martial art of Ts'ui Pa Hsien, initially as a joke in the eyes of his fellow classmates, but later developed the skill for its deceptive form and possible usefulness in certain situations. |

Cultural Notes: |
Gilgamesh Nine: | As part of Earth's early exploration and colonization efforts, numerous DY-210 warp sleeper vessels were sent out to locate and colonize various planets outside of Earth's sphere of influence. One such freighter arrived in the Gilgamesh system in 2072 with the intent of colonizing the eighth planet in the system. However, a navigational computer malfunction instead brought the ship into orbit around the much larger and denser ninth planet. Before the crew was fully awake and realized what had happened, the ship's landing sequence had begun.
The crew was unable to compensate for the much higher than predicted gravity of the planet and the ship landed very roughly. Unable to lift off again, and with their communication equipment damaged, the colonists were forced to set up their colony in the much, much higher gravity of Gilgamesh Nine. Only the most physically fit colonists could barely function in the extremely high gravity, and the majority of the colony died as a result. Those who survived, however, were able to get a self-sustaining colony constructed.
The colony, because it was never able to communicate its somewhat successful landing on the ninth planet, was largely forgotten for more than 100 years. It wasn't until 2312 that the colony was rediscovered when a colony-ship bound for the eight planet received a weak subspace message from the Gilgamesh Nine colony. Slowly, the colony was integrated into the Federation.
Over the years, the colonists had adapted to the intense gravity. Their muscles had become ultra dense in order to facilitate functioning normal to that found on 1g planets. This gave the colonists superhuman strength (although somewhat clumsy, initially) off of their own planet. This made the planet a gold mine for the Starfleet Marine Corps. |

Name: |
Lt. Colonel Jacob Prescot |

    |
 |
Post: | Battalion Commander, 1BBN/8REG U.S.S. Coronado, NCC-97901 |
Species: | Camelynian Male |
Birthplace: | Terrinite Province, Camelyn |
Age: | 27 |
|
Physical Characteristics: |
Height/Weight: | 213 centimeters / 146 kilograms |
Hair/Eyes: | Brown / Deep Blue |
Description: | Prescot is a very tall and imposng man. He has somewhat tanned skin, and blue eyes that look like they could pierce your soul. He formerly had very long hair as was the custom of Camelyian Knights, however he now wears the standard SFMC short haircut as per regulation. He is huge in terms of muscle and strength, and very much looks the part of a huge guy that can be easily beaten by quick moves. However, thanks to modern medicine on Camelyn, he makes up for any deficits his frame may impose, and then much much more. |
Notes: | Camelynians are altered on the genetic level at conception. Prescot being born into a noble family of high status is no exception, in fact he has been given more than the average citizen would. He possesses triple physical strength, endurance, and agility of the standard human. Through a new and experimental procedure his brain was literally turned off from telepathic thought. He cannot receive or give any kind of telepathic or psychic scan. This includes invasive scans used by the Romulans or any other such devices used to gather intelligence. While the tactical values are undeniable, normally it is very much a hindrance when dealing with races that rely solely on telepathy for communication. |
|
Personality Characteristics: |
Marital Status: | Single |
Family: | Father: Lord Jacob Prescot XI; Mother: Lady Nicole Prescot |
Dominants: | Strong-willed, friendly, loyal |
Notes: | Learned Federation English the hard way at the Academy... The constant taunts of the other cadets prompted him to learn it fast. He will still come out with some "Thou's" and other Old English style of speaking if angry. |

Personal History: |
Background: | Jacob the Twelve was born into the high house of Prescot in the year 2374. Jake's early years were spent as pretty much any young child's are, without a care in the world. He did as he pleased and had the run of his parents land on the home world. His parents loved him dearly and showered him with affection.
Starting at the age of 5 his father started him up with several tutors. He was given a wide range of subject to study from sword fighting, to the basics in math and science. Over the years he continued with his studies, accelerating in most of them, except the hard sciences. He could get by in biology and muddle through in physics, but he could not even cheat his way into a good Chemistry grade. Once he managed to create a rather large explosion combining too much of two unknown chemicals. Jake's tutor in exasperation went to his father and told him what his son had done. His father merely looked up and said, "Mine son will obviously nay be a Science Knight now will he?" After looking at the very astonished tutor for a few moments before saying, "Teach him the basics, that is all I ask of ye."
At the age of 7 his physical education tutor put a sword into Jacobs hands. Since that day he has been practicing virtually non-stop to this day. He is a master swordsman, however his style of training and practice is totally different than that of the Federation or anything else that has been seen. The overall style has no name, but it is most effective in parries and hard thrusts and slices. The skill itself is designed to combat other broadsword styles of combat. Another interesting note is that the combat techniques were also honed against katana style fighting, a result of the continued conflict against the RSR. Anyone trained withthis style of fighting can quickly devastate a katana fighter unless they have extensively studied the counter the moves to make it an even playing field.
Jake lived most of his life on a Camelyian colony that his family had sponsored/owned. He loved it there but was becoming restless. A little bit after his 15th birthday he enrolled at the Camelyian Military Academy. His father was all for it knowing that it would help shape him into a great man and leader. Jake completed the Academy in three years, graduating with honors in the top percentage of his class. For the next five years Jake was in the Camelyian Military as an officer. Due to his families status he accelerated through the ranks with relative ease. During his three-year stint in the military there, Jake fought on numerous occasions against Romulan and Gorn raids into the Empire.
While Jake loved the military he found it to be boring. Everything was done for him, something that Prescot had never gotten used to. He was held back from leading a charge into the action by his men saying that they could nae afford to loose a man of his stature. In the beginning it was merely an inconvenience but it soon grew to be more than that. He eventually grew to resent the treatment he was receiving and grew discontent with his position. After a few more months of this treatment Prescot had enough. He applied to Starfleet Marine Corps OCS. He received his favorable reply within the week. Deciding he had enough, Jake resigned his commission from the Camelyian Military and heading back home to tell the news to his parents. His father and mother were both very shocked at his decision, however they knew that once he set his mind to something, nothing could stop him. They wished him luck and booked him passage to Earth.
Life in the Marine OCS was not all fun and games. Prescot never had any trouble with the physical requirements, much to the chagrin, and occasional pain, of the upper classmen. However social interactions were much different here than in the Empire. His way of speaking for instance was greatly mocked his first year and it nearly got him expelled as he drew his swords a few times in order to defend his honor. Fortunately his roommate a Steven Walker would help him out a great deal in that respect, telling him not to take things so seriously, and helping him to learn Federation Standard. Once again the hard sciences eluded him and it took his now best friend to help him to even just pass the basic requirements. While he was there it was determined that Jake had a great aptitude for flying a fighter. With the tensions between the Klingons and the Romulans at high levels, he was pushed into taking this as a secondary MOS in case it was needed.
He graduated on time and was immediately posted to the U.S.S. Coronado. He spent a good deal of time there as a fighter pilot on the Thunderbirds Squadron, much to his chagrin as he wanted to be a ground pounder.
|
Other Notes: | Being a Knight of the Camelynian Empire, Jake knows how to use a sword with a master's skill. His standard sword that he carries into battle is a modern day claymore-style (imagine a William Wallace-y type sword only made out of 25th century alloys). Even though it isnt SFMC issue, he normally carries it into a mission, hiding it if need be. While his sword is very heavy, and it would be very hard for a normal human to wield it in anyway. Thanks to his enhancements though, Prescot can weld it with the speed and agility of a katana. |

Camelyn Cultural Notes: |
Summary: | Prescot is from Camelyn, a world that, although long an associate member of the Federation, has had little outside dealings with it at large.
Camelyn is unique as it is the only Federation world to be ruled by a hereditary nobility. Only after shocked observers realized this was the preferred state of affairs by over 98% of the population was the planet admitted.
Camelyn developed similar to Earth, except at one critical juncture. During its middle ages, the Nobility of Camelyn became enamored of a new movement: rationalism. The nobility began to realize that the religious authorities of Camelyn were not only taking too much power, but were trying to keep the population uninformed, ignorant, and easy to manipulate. A power struggle developed, with the new and arising middle class being recruited by the religious authorities to fight against the nobles. To counter, the nobles turned to their serfs, and freed them, and began to elevate their status. This secured their loyalty, and soon a civil war erupted. The wealth of the Church and the middle class had enabled them to field a enormous army. However, the serfs, armed with new innovative weapons supplied by the nobility, and along with the far superior leadership of the young nobles, led to victory for their forces. At this point Camelyn diverged completely from Earth history. The industrial revolution came later, but when it did, it was funded and controlled by Camelynian nobility. The middle class and Serf class eventually merged, however the bonds of loyalty and principles of government led Camelyn to avoid the worst abuses of the industrial revolution. The monarchy eventually became a partly constitutional monarchy, as a common assembly was allowed. Still, the powers of high justice, the military, and the judiciary remained in the hands of nobles, born and trained to serve their people. Those found to abuse their power were often challenged to duels by the King's Justicars, knights sworn to uphold the ideals of good. Camelyn continued to evolve, shedding itself of bigotry, discrimination, yet clinging to a quasi-feudal system of government. Freed of the limiting vision of religion, the Camelyn technology boom, long delayed, struck with vengeance. The planet grew by leaps and bounds, and the The Kingdom of Camelyn soon conquered its system. To further insure that their nobility would be fit to lead, genetic engineering was introduced. This was shortly before the Gorn wars, when the Camelyn system and the Gorn empire stumbled into war. The war was savage, and on a scale that Starfleet has never quite understood. Camelyn itself was devastated by Gorn weapons, before the war ended in bloody stalemate. To this day, Camelyn still maintains a state of war against Gorn ships, and wandering Camelynites have often been jailed for declaring honor duels against Gorn they happen to encounter.
Camelyn was so devastated that the planet and the population began to perish. The nobility began its most desperate effort ever. First they began genetic engineering to soften the effects of radiation, germ warfare, and viruses used by the Gorn. Then, they began to terraform their own planet. The engineering had incredible effects, especially among the nobility, who received the most modifications. Disease was wiped out, and Camelynites are among the most disease-resistant lifeforms to be found. And the engineers used particular values in their selection. Nobles tend to be strong, powerful individuals, quick of mind, handsome of face, and engineered to have a curious, inquisitive, questing nature. Along with powerful psychological molding from birth, Camelyn nobles are trained to serve the common good, defend the innocent, and to rule with fairness, justice, and honor. Personal honor is the foundation of a Camelynites being.
The efforts to save the planet went slowly, and staved off the worst effects. Still, the planet's ecosystem weakened, and began to collapse. Exhausted by war, the Camelyn rulers sent out ships to quest for something to save their civilization. These early Grail quest ships encountered the Federation, which itself had recently dealt with the Gorn. The Federation found Camelyn to be a fascinating civilization, but was disturbed by its government. Yet the Quest Ships did have a rudimentary warp drive, and in all other respects were suitable for admission. Still, the debate went on for years, but aid was given in allowing the Camelynites to terraform their own world. That they did astounded the Federation. They did not just restore the world, but turned it into a medieval fairy tale. The world became a visage of beauty, fair hills, stunning forests, wide seas, and was populated by pseudo dragons, wood dryads, and other figures of Camelyn myth. The Federation realized with shock that the Camelynites had been proceeding with widescale genetic engineering of its own planet and people. Eventual demands and expressions of concern led to an end of this policy, but by then the nobility and a good deal of the common population had been affected. Camelyn was finally admitted, as the strong sense of honor and chivalry clearly marked them as a stable, positive culture.
Camelynites are still looked at strangely. They speak in a courtly fashion, and tend to dress in pseudo-chivalric fashion. Their military is divided into Cyber-Knights (cybernetically enhanced common troops), Science Knights (the commanders, heroes, and technicians), Shadow Knights (the unspoken branch of the military), and the "Men At Arms" (the support, common infantry and so on, composed of non-nobility). |
