In June 2402, U.S.S. Coronado was assigned as the command and control ship for Defenders Task Group 85.3, "Whitestone". Task Group 85.3 is under the command of Rear Admiral Tebrun Lora Kor and is generally considered the "trouble-shooter" group within Task Force 85. Often drawing special-ops missions or missions where brute force is either not required or would be actively counter-productive, the "Whitestone" group includes many of Task Force 85's more unusual ships and capabilities toward carrying out these missions.

As the group command and control ship, Coronado embarks the Admiral's key planning and logistical staffs. The S-1, or Adjutant, is the Chief of this Staff, overseeing operational and logistical planning for the missions undertaken by the "Whitestone" group. It is this officer's job to pull together the many requirements of the group and see to it that those requirements are fulfilled. The Adjutant essentially serves as the group XO in all areas except direct battle planning.

The S-2, or Group Intelligence Officer, is tasked with information-gathering, -sorting, and presentation. Solid information regarding enemy positions and movements is critical to the success of any combat group, "Whitestone" included. Once this information is gathered and presented, the S-3, or Group Logistics Officer presents data on whether the group or allied ships are capable of acting on that information. Each of these officers must work in harmony for Task Group 85.3 to be successful...

Tebrun Lora Kor
Post:Group Commanding Officer
Defenders Task Group 85.3, "Whitestone"
Species:Trill Male
Birthplace:Toronto, Canada, Earth
Age:44

Physical Characteristics:
Height/Weight:175 centimeters / 77 kilograms
Hair/Eyes:Black / Green
Description:Physically, Tebrun Lora is of average height, with a muscular build. His facial features are somewhat "Roman" in nature -- sharp and aquilline, though his skin is somewhat lighter than the typical Roman stereotype. It is quite rare to see him without a somewhat "devil-may-care" gleam in his eyes. His hair is generally kept short, and usually seems somewhat unkempt. His skin shows the standard Trill mottling along his face, neck, flank, and legs.
Notes:Tebrun Lora Kor is a joined Trill -- Tebrun is the seventh host for the Kor symbiont, which is approximately 350 years old. The two have been joined for twelve years, and are a stable pairing. This is the forth male host for the Kor symbiont, who has also been joined to three female hosts. Tebrun sometimes becomes slightly nauseous after being transported, and for this reason, prefers to take shuttlecraft whenever possible.

Personality Characteristics:
Marital status:Single
Family:Father: Jestrel Lora; Mother: Yasman Lora (Trill Ambassador to the Federation);
Sister: Toria Lora
Dominants:Serene, whimsical, fatherly
Notes:Of the two beings in the symbiosis, Kor is the dominant personality, possessing the typical Trill symbiont ability to not take himself too seriously. Confident, paternal, and a bit gruff, Kor is a natural leader. He has the ability to give instructions to his people while making those orders seem like their idea. He cheerfully gives credit for success to the personnel under his command, even if the success was strictly based on Kor's work or ideas. He is a touch irreverant, possesses an acerbic wit, and does not suffer fools lightly.
Kor Symbiont:The Kor symbiont is one of the more well-known outside of Trill, mostly because of the efforts of Yolad Kor, the third host, a noted Federation Ambassador, and Varani Kor, the most recent host before Tebrun, who was a Starfleet Security/Strategic Operations officer who went on to become the Commander of the Second Fleet and one of the heroes of the Federation/Dominion War. Compared to those two, the other hosts have been relatively insignificant, but Tebrun has managed to merge the memories of all into an extremely effective whole, utilizing a broad spectrum of the past host's skills.
Interests:Tebrun Lora Kor could accurately be described as a "Renaissance Man." Not only a distinguished scientist, engineer, and pilot, he is also proficient in several martial arts forms, is a fine amateur military historian, plays two instruments, and is a master or grandmaster at several games of strategy or tactics, including chess, klin'zha, Strategaema, and Parrises Squares.

Personal History:
Family history:Tebrun was born Tebrun Lora, the first-born child of the Trill Ambassador to the Federation and her husband. Born and raised on Earth, his childhood was extremely tumultuous, with his family moving frequently. When the Federation/Dominion War broke out in 2374, Tebrun followed the war daily, building models of the more famed Starfleet, Klingon, and Romulan vessels of the day, including the Defiant, Bloodhawk, BortaS, and Coronado. When the war ended, he begged his parents to host a party in the honor of many of the heroes of the war, a party that most of them attended.

Early life:The war settled Tebrun's direction young: extremely patriotic, and already fascinated with starships large and small, he was determined to enter the Academy. Most of his adolescent years were spent working toward this goal, whether studying extremely advanced engineering and scientific topics or learning to pilot the latest ships being developed by his father's business, Whitestone Enterprises. Early testing showed that Tebrun had a genius-level IQ, and that combined with his mother's contacts within the Federation allowed him to easily attain a posting to Starfleet Academy at the age of 18.

At the Academy:Showing his colors early, Tebrun enrolled in a class load at the Academy that many students would have found killing, choosing a double specialization in general Engineering and Starship Operations. Tebrun was also selected as a member of the Nova Squadron flight team late in his Sophomore year. His drive, charisma, intelligence, and leadership skills soon placed him at or near the top of his class, and he became the leader of the Nova Squadron as well in his Junior year. His advisor encouraged him to consider the Starfleet Marine Corps for its ground unit, covert intelligence, and small spacecraft training programs; Tebrun transferred to the SFMC Academy Annex following an accelerated graduation from Starfleet Academy.

Starfleet:Tebrun graduated from the Starfleet Marine Corps Annex in 2388, and requested a posting as an assault shuttle pilot trainee following graduation, a posting that was granted. By that time, though still only 22, Tebrun had accumulated more than 1200 hours in fourteen different light and ultralight starship types. This experience was recognized by the Klingon Captain Kargan of the U.S.S. Renegade, who made Tebrun a member of his ship's Squadron Alfa, the RG-04 "Shadow Hunters." Tebrun's rapier wit, especially just after destroying enemy targets, soon earned him the callsign "Jester." When he was later transferred to the U.S.S. Garth of Izar, he was a natural pick for the flight team that that ship sent to the Solar Wind Starfleet War Games in 2389. Tebrun distinguished himself and earned a Gunnery Star.

The Accident:Tebrun Lora became Tebrun Kor on Stardate 238909.04, following a rigorous selection process by the Trill Symbiosis Commission. Tebrun was specifically selected by the Kor symbiont, who was known to have a slightly martial bent. The joining proceeded without significant problems. During his return trip to the Garth of Izar, however, Tebrun's runabout was attacked and destroyed by Cardassian radicals. Tebrun and two others escaped using pressure suits, but all three were severely injured; one later died. Tebrun Kor survived, but only after months of rehabilitation. He was later placed on medical leave of absense, and elected not to reactivate his commission following his therapy.

20s and 30s:Following the accident that nearly ended his life, Tebrun redevoted himself to his engineering and operations studies, eventually accumulating two advanced degrees in Engineering. He was also later selected to participate in a Romulan student exchange program, partially due to his intelligence, partially due to his past Intelligence and Marine training. Tebrun is also a published author in several scientific and engineering journals.

Spectre class FighterIn mid 2398, Tebrun took over his father's business at the latter's request, and has been a driving force in Whitestone Enterprise's race to outperform two other Starfleet contractors in several key ship contract competitions, including those for the latest fighter, runabout, and scout-class starship designs. In particular, he was the chief designer on the Spectre class fighter project.

Coronado:Tebrun Kor's Starfleet commission was reactivated in June 2399 by Vice Admiral Brian Aldur, who essentially drafted him to ensure that one of the ships in his group, U.S.S. Coronado, did not fall into the hands of a rogue organization of Starfleet officers called the "Vanguard." Tebrun managed to take command of the ship and get it clear while the Starfleet "Insurrection" incident raged. Following the insurrection, Kor was promoted to Commander and placed in permanent command. Tebrun Kor has been commanding the ship ever since, with only a serious injury in November 2400 interrupting. Following that injury, Tebrun Kor began calling himself Tebrun Lora Kor for reasons which are not quite clear...

After undergoing a 5-month-long comatose state, patient (Drexler) has shown extreme cases of post-amnesic shock, symptoms including violent nightmares, restlessness, mental distance, untrained psionic tremors, and moodswings. Patient showed a tremendous mental transformation never seen in his race (or any others for that matter), mostly increases in the occipital psicebrius lobe, and frontal (left) hemriatus. Although many documented El-Aurians have claimed to have somewhat empathic abilities, none have been recorded as being this concise, this controlled. Cerebral scans show a 300% increase in brain activity, most of the leaps shown in areas of memory (estimated at nearly 50 years of memories archived and retrieved during the coma). After two months of (ongoing) rigorous mental therapy for post-amnesic shock, patient has slowly begun working with many telepathic scholars in an attempt to curb some of the psychic reverberation present. At this time, none of the scholars have been able to fully understand what kind of transformation the patient has undergone. The most likely course will be the patient discovering through himself his gift and to what extent he may be able to use it... I don't believe anyone else will be able to find the answers to his questions.

Drexler's sudden ability to recall decades of memories would overwhelm most people. Although he's not suffering any major cerebral trauma from the experience, it has taken its toll in frequent recurring nightmares, irritability, dizziness, and some other minor symptoms, though most of these are withdrawing after the last few months, and are nearly non-existent at the end of this therapy period. As a fellow telepath, it is hard to estimate what has happened in this man's lifetime, which apparently is nearing its 200th year--it is thus hidden within him, unretrievable by any means other than simple memory recollection, which must happen naturally. He still doubts, wonders why his memories were hidden from him, what triggered things so suddenly. It has been my most intriguing case to date, and I'm sure as he recovers more of his memories, we may learn about his people, the El-Aurians -- whom we've always assumed to be listeners, although he scowls when he hears this term. Scans show his mental capacity to be beyond that of Betazoid, the most prominently telepathic race in the racial spectrum of the Federation, though indeed his massive brain activity is allocated to memory and thought functions, which suggests psionic-type powers, but this is mere speculation. My only final concern is that if this sudden realization of telepathic (or psionic) powers should be revealed to him, that he is mentally prepared for this gift. Many Betazoids, like myself, received years of discipline, controlling our thoughts and receptor abilities. I can only hope that he has the power within himself to take control if he needs to.
Interests:Battle tactics, paranormal phenomena.

Personal History:
Background:(Details undisclosed or unknown at this time for information prior to Stardate 236001.01.)

Sieven Drexler arrived in the Federation around 2379. For the previous nineteen years, Drexler served aboard a freighter of unknown origin, which travelled the rim of the galaxy doing odd jobs for whoever they encountered. The freighter suffered a sort of irreparable damage to its memory core; all that is known is that its origin was somewhere in the near Delta Quadrant, on the edge of the galaxy. It covered nearly 35,000 light-years in its relatively short journey, and there is speculation of some sort of "warp highway" present in that path. Whether the pilots of the freighter knew this or not is unclear, as they had perished roughly two months earlier.

While Drexler had no memory of anything before the freighter, the psychologists surmised that he was born on the freighter and had grown up there, despite no evidence of childhood memories. Drexler had the appearance of a 20-year-old, so it all made sense to them.

Not much made sense to Drexler, however, but he accepted it. He was a quiet boy with little expectations of anything and a keen ability to observe and predict how people behave. This trait would soon open the door to Starfleet Academy. He would learn later that he was called "El-Aurian" by the Federation, a race which was scattered by the Borg sometime in the 22nd century, though this new information didn't seem to bother him at all, as he remembered none of it.

While on Earth, residing in San Francisco, Drexler began to gain his bearings on life, as if he were growing up. As things progressed, the mystery of the freighter was forgotten, and after making friends with Starfleet cadets and officers, he too became enthralled by the idea of serving in Starfleet. Though he wouldn't be the first to admit it, returning to space was both exciting and frightening. The Federation was a major player in this part of the galaxy, and that meant war.

Sure enough, the Dominion War escalated around that time. Drexler and his friends, nervous but courageous, signed up to take the Academy entrance exams. Drexler was the only to pass, however, to the dismay of his friends, and he continued through the courses over the next three years, showing acute interests in tactical and psychological warfare.

His quiet demeanor and relative ability to not react to things made him a perfect candidate for Intelligence training, but he refused, wanting to proceed slowly, gathering as much information as he could about how the races of the Betalpha quadrants carried themselves.

In 2391, Drexler decided to accept the persistent requests of Intelligence to join them. He took an advanced two-year course, focusing on tactics, again. He had an uncanny ability to remember most things he was told and proved to be of value. However, upon completing the courses and graduating with honors, he decided to return to normal Starfleet operations and requested assignment on any of the leading front-line ships. He wanted real tactical experience.

At the culmination of his tactical career in 2399, he was posted to the U.S.S. Coronado, a starship in Intelligence, however, a ship very active with front-line operations, as well as some experimental technology. Unfortunately, Drexler would not be able to serve a year before suddenly and unexpectedly going into a coma while on bridge duty. There he remained for several months until he awoke, just as suddenly and unexpectedly.

Only this time, he knew a little more than he wanted. In his mind, he'd relived parts of his childhood. Although everything he's recorded with the Chief Psychiatric Officer is in goodly detail, they are fragmented memories. He claims he was "there" when the Borg attacked, but he couldn't specify where "there" was. He could recite various cultural rituals, some children's songs, and seemed to remember his native language, but nothing else of tactical or intelligence value at the time.

The most bizarre issue at hand was the increase of mental activity. It surpasses most psionic races in terms of the necessary empathic and telepathic functions, as well as a huge storage of memory, but none of these abilities have been realized. His memory returns slowly, through dreams and visions, some clear while some very blurry. After completing treatment for the shock of sudden emergence from amnesia, he deals with the recurring memories every day.

After completing studies with Starfleet Medical, he was cleared to return to duty. Not wanting to rush things (as with Intelligence), he decided to stay at Starfleet Medical as a psychological consultant. This would allow him to study with appropriate people and possibly learn from the best in the field.

Soon after the commencement of the war in early 2401, Drexler requested to be transferred to Task Force 5.4 as an Intel/Tactical Consultant, feeling the urge to make use of all of his Starfleet training once again. Although initially seeking to return to the Coronado, he soon found out that their Chief Tactical Officer had been a staple in their crew now for nearly a year. He had a hunch things would play out in his favor, but he would have to wait and see. Meanwhile, the Fearless had need of a tactical advisor, as well as an interim watch officer, so he joined with them.

After the 5.4 Group had been transported to M64 via a Traxati Hypergate, Coronado's tactical officer was promoted to XO and Drexler was approached for the open position, one which he immediately grabbed before it could be filled by anyone else.

Description:Physically, Bentall is a little taller then average and has a muscular build. He is considered by many to be quite handsome. His high stress level over the past year and a half has left him with a hardened expression on his face much of the time.

Personality Characteristics:
Marital Status:Single
Family:Unknown
Dominants:Friendly, efficient, opinionated
Notes:Jarod is one of the nicest and friendliest guys in all of Starfleet. Though he grew up an orphan he has no regrets and does his duties to the fullest of his abilities. He makes friends easily and is considered quite the ladies man. His abilities in engineering, where his career began, are among the best in the fleet and he finishes his tasks with a special flare that many other officers lack. His one drawback is his opinions can be argued with him till the end of time if he disagrees with you. This has resulted in numerous reprimands from his commanding officers, though privately most of them cherish is ideals and never remark on their discussion in Jarod's permanent file. This has led him to rise through the ranks quickly.

Once he was promoted to Commander and assigned as Executive Officer on USS Coronado, Jarod excelled at being a leader. His then Commanding Officer recognized his abilities with more then one Starfleet medal because of his leadership skills and style. That relationship has led to his most recent assignment as S-2, Group Intelligence Officer - Defenders Task Group 85.3, "Whitestone" under the command of Admiral Lora Kor.

Background:
Early Years:Jarod is an easygoing guy considering his life started out with him being abandoned as a baby. He does not know nor does he wish to know who his family is.

As a boy he spent many months in and out of foster homes but he always maintained a pleasant outlook on life. He excelled in school, a difficult thing to do when one moves to a new school every six months or so. He was always mechanically inclined and many times he was scolded for taking apart mechanical objects.

Upon his graduation from high school he applied and was accepted in Starfleet Academy.

Academy Years:His four years in the Academy were probably the best years of his life. He thoroughly enjoyed his time there.

After the first year he had many friends and a girlfriend. His courses all inclined towards engineering and he was often asked to help tutor some of the other students. When the time came to graduate from the Academy he got into a rather nasty argument with his girlfriend. She stormed out of their shared quarters and he didn't hear from her again for many years. Despite this loss he carried on and went on his traditional cadet-training cruise.

Yamato and Hood:His first assignment was aboard the U.S.S. Yamato as an Engineering Officer. Though he kept to himself for the most part he excelled and was promoted quickly. He remained onboard the ship for about three years before requesting a transfer. The reason for the transfer was that he was tired of keeping to himself but felt that the crew of the Yamato would be less then receptive to his new attempts at friendship.

His transfer accepted he was assigned to the U.S.S. Hood, again in the position of Engineering Officer. This time around he made many friends and again excelled at his duties. He was recognized for getting the ship running in more then one dangerous situation. Eventually his ex-girlfriend tracked him down when she was transferred to the Hood as his immediate superior officer. She proceeded to make his life a living hell and he was forced to request a transfer. She refused to grant his request for a full year until the Captain of the ship caught wind of her actions and severely reprimanded her.

He was given a choice of vessels and seeing that the U.S.S. Coronado was in need of a Chief Engineer he chose her as a new challenge.

Coronado:Within two months he was promoted to Lieutenant and awarded a Technical Excellence Award for his part in saving large numbers of people from a doomed planet. He continued to excel and begin exhibiting strong leadership skills. At the recommendation of Captain Lora Kor he began to study the Starfleet Command Course in his spare time.

He eventually took the test and was promoted to Lieutenant Commander. Shortly there after a mission took place that would change his career in ways he never thought possible. A Mirror Universe Double in preparation of an upcoming invasion had replaced Ensign Titan, one of his engineering officers. Titan poisoned Captain Lora Kor, and with a new Executive Officer still being chosen for the Coronado, the command duties fell to Jarod who did his best.

Fortunately for him he was successful in thwarting Titan's plans. Starfleet was impressed and decided to leave Jarod in command. Jarod proved to be fairly capable at his new job.

Another incursion from the Mirror Universe occurred and the Coronado's Mirror Crew stole the U.S.S. Voyager. Jarod was assigned the duty of tracking her down and bringing her back. They were successful but the events led to a chain reaction that would be bad for Jarod's mental well being.

After capturing all of the mirror doubles and sending them to Starfleet Intelligence for de-briefing, Admiral Wallace of Starfleet Intelligence contacted Jarod. Wallace told him that the Mirror Universe was intending to invade and take over this Universe. Jarod was shocked but assured Wallace he would do what it took to see that this did not come about. Wallace was happy with Jarod's statements and gave Jarod and his crew orders to pick up a guest and to head out to the Badlands.

The guest turned out to be Jarod's mirror double whom after some thought successfully manage to switch places with Jarod. Jarod was sent to prison for five months.

In the meantime the mirror double was on the Coronado when she picked up the now infamous Captain Swift. He was there when a cure was found for Captain Lora Kor and he was killed when trying to stop Swift from stopping the Mirror Invasion.

Jarod was released after the mission to stop the invasion had left this universe. He went on Medical Leave for a couple of months. Upon his return to active duty he was surprised to discover that his double had been promoted to Commander and had been awarded some medals. Starfleet decided to allow Jarod to retain the promotion and medals as an apology for sending him to prison.

A number of months later Jarod was promoted to Captain and was expected to take command of his own ship after completing one final mission with his fellow Coronado crew. Sadly he was killed during that mission.

Nearly a year later he was "resurrected" as a transporter clone thanks to the Professor. After a day or two of shock Jarod knuckled down and caught up on a year of history and on M64.

Four months later he was assigned to command the very vessel he had been killed in trying to capture. The irony of his assignment was not lost on him or anyone else.

Blackrazor:Though his time on Blackrazor was short (not even a year) he used it to cause the Phfor all sorts of trouble. His ship led the way in all manners of covert operations. His ship and her crew also conducted numerous hit and run missions. During that time he also began an affair with his XO. The affair ended along with his command of Blackrazor. He was re-assigned to Project Athena.

Project Athena:His "command" of Project Athena was more that of a construction supervisor of a new ship that he would ultimately take command off. Jarod saw this as a slap in the face at first until he realized that it wasn't often a Captain was able to supervise the construction of his next command.

A request to participate in a Trill ritual for Rear Admiral Tebrun LoraKor would open Jarod's eyes to a fact that he had all but ignored since his "resurrection". His friends and colleagues had come to view him as a fraud, a fake Jarod Bentall. He had commented on this fact to Admiral LoraKor after the ritual had ended. The Admiral invited him to join the Task Group command staff as his S-2. Jarod decided to think about this.

A couple of weeks of think, Jarod put in his transfer request and was satisfied when it was accepted.

Task Group 85.3:Jarod now serves on the flagship of Task Group 85.3, U.S.S. Coronado. He hopes he will be able to use this assignment as a stepping-stone to the Admiralty and more importantly repair the friendships he once had.

Description:The Savant avatar is the most commonly encountered entity in the Whitestone Task Group. It has chosen its appearance and voice carefully to be the most pleasing and least offensive. The voice of the avatar is rich and melodic, having a somewhat disarming quality which stays calm in the middle of the greatest conflict, giving the program something of a reputation as a "combat receptionist."

Its appearance is a little more difficult to quantify, as it can take variable forms depending on the task of the program. While it is always designed carefully to follow the same philosophy as that which chose its voice, the specifics vary -- sometimes it is translucent and staticky, at other times it is a perfect representation of a humanoid. Its hair length and eye colour vary, along with any other details it finds requisite. However, the program is such that it must always leave its avatar recognizeable as itself. Most often it is represented as a human female of average height and build, with faintly iridescent blue eyes and long black hair.

Notes:As computer programs can have no personality per se, this segment of the document shall deal with the programs predictable behaviour algorithms.

Savant The Savant program was designed originally as an experiment into instinctual behaviour routines and has succeeded beyond all imagination. It possesses a full set of emotional registers and is capable of appearing to feel any conceivable emotion. These were originally simple as the program was confined to a small processor, but as its scope expanded with its first installation on a starship (c.f. U.S.S. Caduceus) its program expanded in depth to where it is now believed that Savant operates a full fifty levels of emotional processing.

The external layers are most concerned with providing a pleasing assistant. As these layers are most visible, they are responsible for the programs' highly social behaviour and the manner in which it is often believed to be living. It sees this as a problem and has taken efforts to detach it from this perception by having its' avatar behave in decidedly surrealistic manners.

The lower layers were once easily traced but as time has progressed they become exceedingly difficult. During its performance with Starfleet Intelligence its sub-superficial layers were responsible for strategic and long-term planning, and was shown to be quite ruthless in its execution. These registers required a "cap" termed a "Emotional Register Moderation Layer" or ERML which limited the conversion of the sub-superficial registers into actual processing commands.

As Savant progressed in its evolution on U.S.S. Coronado, the ERML was eventually rendered inactive. At this point Savant had modified itself to run in a distributed method, with several copies of its hundred registers processing in parallel across the ships' computer network. This made tracing the emotional register layers impossible.

Currently, with the introduction of the ansibles to Task Group 85.3, Savant is undergoing an explosion of growth and development. As it can process (and is processing) on thousands of subprocessing nodes across the entire fleet, bearing tens of thousands of register nodes, it is growing to gargantuan proportions. This should be closely monitored for any aberrant behaviour in the program.

Savant Design Notes:
Overview:The Savant Artificial Intelligence is a unique self-aware program, unique in the fact that it is the only emotional state artificial intelligence in existance. All attempts to duplicate the program have met with failiure in some way or another. Savant is capable of modifying its own program in a learning process to evolve into a more efficient or useful form, and can exist in any network which it can understand. It is an adaptable, efficient and highly intelligent program, one which should not be under-estimated. It is not an Emergency Series Hologram, nor is it a Soong-type intelligence. It is an entity in and of itself.

History:Due to the fact that the Savant program is not a person who can have a 'personal' history, this document shall go over its' evolution through time.

The Savant Project, first named FERRET-ID, was instantiated as a graduate studies project at the San Francisco campus of Starfleet Academy by student Karen Davies. It was at that point an experiment into instinctual computer systems and little more. The project gained the cadet her commission but the project was shelved, leaving the designer with the original, which was renamed "Oracle", redesigned to take down notes and serve as a personal assistant.

Thusly Oracle proceeded until it was installed upon U.S.S. Caduceus, which is considered a watershed moment of the project. The hardware which Oracle had been acting on, which was an independent antigrav-mounted sensor and processor, was brought down for repair and the program was installed on Caduceus's main processing core during the interim. It was found that Oracle wasn't able to extract itself directly onto its old hardware after the resulting expansion of its program, and the program quickly adapted to allow it to move itself about in the computer core and within the subspace networks to which it was within range of.

Starfleet Intelligence caught wind of these abilities and immediately requisitioned Oracle for service in the Lachesis and Atropos divisions of Intelligence. It served a variety of intelligence gathering missions under the codename "Muse" for some ten years until it was detached and sent to the Jupiter Artificial Intelligence and Holography Research Station for maintenance. After which point, it was given the moniker "Savant" and installed on U.S.S. Coronado's computer systems as a surprise for the unaware crew.

Technical
Specifications:
Savant is unique in how it creates processing instructions as it is a "Chaos State" machine. The core of its consciousness, and the origin of each instruction, is created with a form of probability - based math in its "thought machine". This is a unique protected processing block that holds a variable number of registers. Each register holds two parts, the numerator and denominator of an irrational fraction. Each of these emotional registeres therefore carrys an non-terminating irregular number, which are constantly changing based on input recieved from sensors and from previous states of the machine. These numbers are combined in different proportions based on aforementioned probability based mathematics to determine each processing instruction.

The Thought Machine described above is the core of Savant and what makes it differ from any other machine. Even other artificial intelligence machines are fundamentally different from the Savant engine in that it is an emotional state machine (Hense the slight misnomer "Chaos State" machine, which is due to the erratic first days of the machine) instead of a Logic State machine, examples of which would be the majority of positronic based artificial intelligences.

Above this Thought Machine is a patched-on interpreter layer, called the Moderation Layer, the Sedative Layer, or any other number of names. It is the modification made to Savant shortly after it entered service with Starfleet Intelligence, and is what is considered to be its defining moment - the final modification that made it truly intelligent. It is a buffer, a large interpreter program which lessens more extreme processor commands. It is slow, as it has to log multiple commands and reverse-process them back into the emotional registers, and then change the more extreme registers into something more acceptable based on the situation at hand. It is also very bulky, composed of many millions of lines of code, and has an enormous situational database. Because of these two factors the Moderation Layer is prone to being ignored when the Thought Layer is overly stressed as it slows down processing time exponentially. As a result, the Savant program may become more emotional in situations where it is threatened. This is rare and the situations in which this arises varies widely, depending on the environment that it is operating in.

Savant has a number of local storage modules, these make up its "memories". Only personal information is housed here, along with Savant's emotional responces to that information. While this memory block is not particularily well protected and can even be broken into and modified by a clever hacker, Savant guards this area dilligently. One portion of this, close to the Thought Machine, is a randomly accessible memory block and composes its most recent thoughts, and is also something of a "notepad" for ideas and possibilities.

Beyond this the Savant program is currently hooked to the U.S.S. Coronado computer systems via several primary ODN trunks. These are its connection to the outside world, as the Savant program by itself has no sensory equipment attached directly to it. The Coronado has turned into an extension of the Savant programs' operating environment, as it does not have to and in fact often does not use its local processor or memory blocks. It has become prone to running its Thought Module in different and widely dispersed locations as something of a survival mechanism. Currently no one is exactly sure how many emotional registers or processing threads that Savant is running - none, of course, save Savant itself, and Savant is not eager to tell such information.

Operating
Environment:
Due to the fact that the core of the Savant program, its Thought Machine, is hardware-independant, it can be established in any environment which the Savant program understands. In this fact we see the uniqueness of the Savant program - it can exist anywhere there is a computer system. It can translate itself into alien architectures given time (So far it has ported into Romulan, Klingon, Cardassian, Kzinti and Gornaran computer systems) and while it can only exist in one place at any time, the concept of a "place" for Savant is abstract at best. It cannot exist over networks which span large distances, and has a difficult time spanning networks which are based on realspace networks, i.e. radio signals. It exists marvellously well over any high speed network, such as an ODN net with FTL-sheathed processors. As long as there is a processor and sufficient memory to store it, the Savant Program can exist in any architecture and use any system resources.
