For as long as there have been big ships with engines, either in sea or in space, there have
been Engineers to provide for the welfare of their propulsion systems, whether their method
of propulsion has been steam-, nuclear-, or antimatter reaction-based. Aboard Federation
starships, the Engineering staff is primarily responsible for four things: the warp and
impulse drives, the auxiliary fusion reactors, and the electro-plasma power distribution net.
In the wider scheme, though, the Maintenance staff, responsible for repairs on other ship's
systems, also reports to the Chief Engineer.
A modern starship requires an enormous amount of power to do its job, and though it's the
role of the Flight Operations Manager to allocate the limited power available to the ship's
many departments, it is the job of the Engineering officers to provide that power. It is at
turns a frightfully boring job of tiny increases in efficiency, and an "exciting" one --
especially when the ship takes damage, systems fail, and the Bridge is calling down to find
out just what exactly is going on... The fate of the ship often rests with these officers!
In addition, engineers are often part of Away teams into unknown territory, especially when
unknown technology or artifacts are discovered. It takes an experienced engineer to determine
the function of alien technology, and Starfleet engineers are some of the best in the galaxy
at it. In addition, if the Away team encounters difficulties or the ship is in trouble, these
officers are often called upon to improvise solutions to keep the team, or the ship alive.
Turning "rocks into replicators" is no easy task, but these men and women do it with panache!

Pre-Starfleet History: |
Personal: | (These notes were written by Farley himself not long after his Academy graduation.)
My father is a local Sherriff in my home town of Nome and my mother is a Judge for the county next door. Life was good and simple there. Dad is 58 and mom is 55. They are both doing well. My brother is 28 and an archeologist, working on some outer planets digging up various "dead" civilations. I don't get to see any of my family much. They raised me to be independent as possible. Sometimes this works out... and sometimes it doesn't.
My schooling went very well with few problems, other then normal ones. After school, I moved to Mars, to try and prove to myself I could make it on my own. I worked in various postions throughout the industrial sectors, working mostly as general maintenance and then as more technical jobs in the field. I loved getting into the problems hands on and fixing the problems... even soemtimes making modifications to make things better. I found out early that this was not the way to go since my work was almost always being credited to my supervisor! I wasn't out for glory, I just wanted the credit if it was mine to have.
This problem kept me moving from job to job, also from relationship to relationship. All of these failed... especially an almost marriage. After this, I went back home to "regroup." When I got home I saw a few of my classmates who had gone right from school to Starfleet. They seemed so full of life and confident. That's what I wanted to have, a fulfulling career, one that I could be proud of and one that other people could count on me for my talents. That's when I decided to join Starfleet.
Training was hard at times, but I felt that I was in the right place at the right time. They gave me the support I needed and the "push" when I needed it. I graduated Starfleet in Septempber 2400. My first assignment was with the U.S.S. Coronado as an Assistant Engineer... |

Notes: | He has two scars on his forehead, injuries of when he was younger where the wounds couldn't heal properly and where he didn't had a medkit. He's healthy but doing from the AFT ship to the foward of the saucer running might just result in him being send to sickbay for some days while he recuperates. |

|
Personal History: |
Family history: | His father and mother were Starfleet officers assigned to Starfleet command. That's how he got to be born there while his mother, last promoted to Commander, was on duty. Once Skylooker was born, they decided to accept a special assignement to help Starfleet to get as accurate star charts as possible of the Alpha Quadrant. His mother was a engineer who was like Mr. Barkley... in fact they had lot of fun together. His father was the kind of officer who would have been destined to become a Admiral but he had a little incident with the Klingon Ambassador once and he ruined his possible Admiral carrer and he was last promotoed to Commander. The rest of his family were the kind of people against Starfleet unopenly. |
Early life: | He was one of the first child to see most of the Alpha Quadrant. He did learn how to fly since that one of the only thing he could do on a such long journey. He came to have a big interest in Earth history, since he was away so long (got home sick). He then learn how to play quite almost all instrument and he has a ability to learn them in no time. |

Name: | EEH Mark II | |
Post: | Emergency Engineering Hologram U.S.S. Coronado, NCC-97901 |
Birthplace: | Created at Pavonis Mons, Mars, Sol System |
Species: | Hologram |
Age: | N/A |
|
Physical Characteristics: |
Height/Weight: | 141 centimeters / 0 kilograms |
Hair/Eyes: | Orange-Red / Blue |
Description: | The physical appearance of the EEH was chosen by a random lottery of all the people within the Federation's Memory Alpha database who matched a certain criteria for size and appearance. The final one picked is a short female with brightly dyed hair who is equally comfortable to the eyes as the General Purpose avatar. It wears bright orange Damage Control overalls and no starfleet communicator or rank pins so as it cannot be confused with a regular crewmember. Because the EEH is a hologram, it can transfer instantly to any point on the ship that is equipped with holoemitters. |
|
Personality Characteristics: |
Marital Status: | N/A |
Family: | N/A |
Dominants: | Quiet, self-sacrificing, driven |
Notes: | The Emergency Engineering Hologram was developed as a short-term supplement for the ship's sentient engineering staff. She is intended as an assistant rather than a full-fledged engineer in its own right.
The EEH was given a facelift and personality rework several months before the commissioning of U.S.S. Coronado and is in fact the testbed for this aspect of the Savant Series EEH. It is quiet and very efficient, driven to assist in any way possible. If left active it will take the worst and most difficult assignments without hesitation or voicing complaints - much unlike many living engineers. It is the avatar which few Starfleet crews have difficulty working with, mostly because it rarely says anything and never disagrees. |
